Nearly all schools have some sort of penal code for dealing with non-conforming and unruly pupils, even if the petty, time-wasting punishments (eg writing lines) have gone. Some have an explicit tariff of punishments; others treat each case totally individually. Many punishments involve deprivation of free time in detention, manual work for the community (sweeping leaves, picking up litter). For repeated or more serious offences many schools exclude pupils for a period. For dire offences, most will resort to permanent exclusion (or expulsion), in which case you start the whole process of finding a school all over again.
