Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

Very many independent schools run the Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award as an extra-curricular activity. There are 3 levels: bronze (taken from the age of 14), silver (from 15) and gold (from 16); all must be finished by the 25th birthday. Awards are made on successful completion of each of four sections: service to individuals and the community; social and practical skills; physical recreation and activity; expeditions and adventure training. In addition there is a residential project at gold level (http://www.theaward.org/”>www.theaward.org).
