In an organisation of hundreds of teenagers, it is obvious that some formal attempts have to be made to maintain discipline and promote responsible attitudes to the community and to school work. Approaches are hugely varied however – from the explicit promotion of self-discipline, to a comprehensive list of dos and don’ts.
Schools usually have some sort of written codes of conduct, sometimes drafted with the help of senior pupils. In this book, we try to show the school’s general approach to discipline. Most schools have given exemplar responses to two hypothetical disciplinary situations: failure to submit homework and possession of cannabis.
