Founded 1952, it is situated in a large Victorian terraced house in South Kensington. It is an independent private college, which accepts some GCSE students but is primarily a sixth-form college. It offers 2-year A-level courses, in addition to intensive 1-year courses and shorter courses for those needing to retake a subject. It also provides training courses specifically for those taking medical admissions tests. Class sizes are small; structured tuition is based on the demands of the exams and closely tailored to the needs of the individual. In common with other sixth-form colleges, it is a relaxed environment with no uniform or competitive houses and with constructive relationships between staff and students. It aims to provide an open, supportive atmosphere, to encourage students to develop on both the academic and personal level. It is close to Imperial College and students have access to its gym.
