Bury Grammar School has a long and rich history of excellence since the 1570s and the Schools are proud of their long-standing tradition of nurturing an open and inclusive community, which welcomes students and staff from different faiths and cultures. This is a source of great enrichment for the whole community and is what makes Bury Grammar School so special.

The BGS journey begins in the coeducational Pre-School from three years of age. The journey continues to the Infant School and then single sex education in Junior and Senior Schools. It culminates in the high-performing coeducational Sixth Form. Each one of the Schools has a caring family environment where each pupil is known and nurtured as an individual. Results
The BGS winning combination of high aspirations, excellent teaching, a warm and positive environment and strong home-school partnerships resulted in another successful set of results in Summer 2017. At A-Level: · A 100% pass rate in a year of more challenging A-Level examinations · 28% of grades were at the elite A*/A level · 64% of grades were at A*-B and many students exceeded expectations, improving considerably on their performances at AS level. · 93% of students achieved an A grade in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ); At GCSE: · 65% of BGS Girls’ grades are at the coveted A*/A level. · 14 girls achieved the prestigious Grade 9, whilst five students achieved two Grade 9 scores in their results · 60% of girls have a GCSE profile with an average of A grades.

Our students leave Bury Grammar School Sixth Form with outstanding skills and exceptional exam results to progress to top universities around the country- from Nuclear Engineering at Imperial College London and Geography at Durham University to Medicine at The University of Oxford. Our students apply for a variety of courses and we are proud that the majority achieve their first choice at impressive destinations. 75% of girls and 76% of boys achieved their first or second choice university destination, with 55% of girls and 61% of boys moving on to Russell Group universities in Summer 2017.
Arts
Music: Up to 50% of pupils learn a musical instrument; instrumental exams can be taken. Some 10 musical groups including orchestras, chamber quartet, brass, wind bands, jazz group, choirs. Drama: Drama offered; A-level theatre studies. Many pupils are involved in school productions. Art and design: On average, 30-35 take art and design GCSE, 9 A-level. Design, textiles also offered.
Sport
Bury Grammar School has long had a tradition of sporting excellence and engagement. Superb sports facilities on the 45-acre campus means that all students have the opportunity to engage in purposeful and competitive sporting activity on site throughout the week. All sporting activities aim to allow our pupils to participate recreationally or to compete locally, regionally, and even nationally! Our excellent sporting facilities include: · 18-metre indoor swimming pool · 50-metre high jump, long jump and triple jump track. · A new suite of artificial playing surfaces, including exceptional 3G all-weather pitches for football, rugby, cricket, futsal and hockey. · Two multi-use games areas. · Tennis and netball courts. · Full sized volleyball and basked ball courts. 25 acres of football and rugby playing field.
