After a brutal 3.30am minibus pickup, the Stover ski team started their journey to Hemel Hempstead for the British Indoor Ski Championships. Stover took 20 children from Year 3 to Year 10 ranging from experienced racers to those racing for the first time.
The competition is both individual and as teams of 4 where you win points for your team based on your results against the same age of children. Stover was up against c. 500 racers and several very established school race programs.
A special mention should go out to both Belle and Fliss who raced despite not being 100% fit and Andrew, who stepped up to race the full sized slalom poles despite never having done these before!
In the individual event, everyone skied well with Jack Cox putting in another outstanding ski to lead all the field after both of his furious runs. Fraser Cox continued in his current mid-season form and was a brilliant second in his age category. With Hudson and Rosie skiing fast in their respective categories, Stover A won a quite sensational silver in the team event.
In the afternoon, the seniors really demonstrated the progress they have made over the last 6 months of training and put in some very respectable times, shaving many seconds off their previous PB’s on this course.
The Stover Ski Club has been running for just over a year with over 30 children training with us. This take place every Friday night from 5pm at Torquay Alpine Ski Club. All pupils are welcome (age 7+) whether you want to race or simply improve your skiing. Please speak with Miss Robinson for more information.
