Peterborough High
What it's like
Founded in 1895, it is set in more than 10 acres of beautiful grounds on the western outskirts of Peterborough and within easy reach of the city centre. There is a well-equipped sports hall and a new ICT suite. It provides education in a caring community, based on Christian principles, to children from all faiths and from none. The senior school is single sex although the junior school is co-educational. It aims to enable pupils to fulfil their potential academically as well as developing all their practical qualities and skills; to inculcate independent study habits; and to make pupils feel valued in a friendly and well-disciplined environment. Pastoral care is very good. Classes are small and examination results good. There are active and successful music and drama departments. While the main aim of the sports department is to encourage enjoyment and fitness, there are considerable successes in local, regional and national competitions. A range of extra curricular activities includes St John Ambulance, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme and Young Enterprise.
