Children with special needs, especially intelligent ones, may do better at a mainstream school than a special one. Many schools make provision for children with special needs due to, for example, learning or language difficulties. The Department for Children, Schools & Families has a guide for parents (see the website www.dcsf.gov.uk, or ring 0870 000 2288).
Special provision - three distinctive schools
