Smoking is still prevalent in some schools, despite massive anti-smoking campaigns and it being illegal for those under 18. All schools prohibit smoking, many expel those caught. In general, if children get through school without smoking they will probably never start but peer pressure and the need to flout authority makes this difficult.

Making children aware of the dangers does not seem to stop them: teenagers regard themselves as immortal and do not appreciate how difficult giving up can be. One Head recommends massive parental bribes to children for not smoking before they are 21.
