Schools like to be informed if your child needs to be kept at home/hospital, especially if an infectious disease is involved or the child’s activity will be curtailed after going back to school. When they need to be informed varies – some only want to know when the child returns to school, others want to know as soon as possible.

School itself is not necessarily any more dangerous than home but sickness can strike and accidents happen there, as anywhere. You should leave your telephone numbers with the school and be very specific about how and when you can be contacted; this can save much anxiety for frantic teachers.
