The ultimate deterrent at most schools. Expulsion (or ‘permanent exclusion’) need not be the end of the world: it lurks in the background of many of the great and the good. Some schools expel more readily than others and it may be worth finding out something of the school’s policy.

The immediate problem will be finding another school; the present school might be prepared to help with this − depending on the reason for expelling the child in the first place.
